In 1939 a 17-year-old found herself in one of the most extraordinary positions at an extraordinary time: it was the outbreak of WWII, and her father was about to become Prime Minister. In Mary Churchill’s War: The Wartime Diaries of Churchill’s Youngest Daughter, edited in association with the Churchill Archives Centre, Cambridge, her daughter, Emma Soames, presents a unique perspective of this remarkable historical moment, capturing what it was like to be a young woman full of joie de vivre coming of age in the wartime years.
