About

Founded in 2002, Frinton Literary Festival brings readers and writers together in an intimate seaside setting - celebrating books, conversation and shared experiences.

Our Story

Frinton Literary Festival was founded by local literature enthusiast Philomena Dwyer and a creative writing group.

Today, it is run by a dedicated committee of volunteers who bring experience from across publishing, education, theatre, events and bookselling - working together to programme and deliver the festival each year.

We are especially grateful for the longstanding support of Caxton Books, Frinton’s independent bookshop and an important part of the festival community.

What We Do

We aim to:

Promote

literature

and culture across the

local area

Bring leading authors to Frinton to celebrate books and ideas

Welcome audiences

from across Tendring and beyond

Support and inspire the next generation of readers and writers

Work with local schools and run an annual writing competition

The Festival

Traditionally held over a long weekend in October, the festival features a varied programme of talks, conversations and special events.

Regular highlights include:

  • Crime & Wine evenings with leading crime writers

  • The Philomena Dwyer Literary Luncheon

  • Author-hosted Afternoon Tea events

Events are designed to be intimate and engaging, with opportunities to ask questions, meet authors and have books signed. Each year, we introduce new elements to keep the programme fresh and exciting.
