We cannot quite believe that Frinton Literary Festival has concluded for another year. It was wonderful to see so many of you in the crowd night after night as we were joined by so many talented authors and entertainers throughout the course of the week. Thank you for choosing to spend your time with us.
We’d like to say a huge congratulations to the three authors shortlisted for the second Robert Bucke Short Story Prize. The three shortlisted stories – ‘Ebb and Flow’ by A.M. Obst, ‘Orbit’ by Daisy Jones, and ‘Shoes in the Wardrobe’ by Tony Oswick – all showed promise and creativity with the theme ‘What If?’ but, ultimately, ‘Orbit’ was crowned the winner. You can read all three entries on our website here.
We had hoped to see you later this month for Reverend Richard Coles at St Mary’s Church, but due to previously unforeseeable scheduling difficulties, this has now been rearranged for Wednesday 5th February, at 7pm for 7.30pm as before.
Your original tickets will still be valid for the new date, but if you would like to swap them for ones with the new date and time on them simply visit Caxton Books and hand them in. We are also now able to release more tickets for sale, so please tell your family and friends who were worried they might have missed out!
If sadly you can’t make the new date, we are of course offering refunds. Please write us at enquiries@flitfest.co.uk and we will make arrangements with you when we process these before the end of this month.
We truly hope that you enjoyed this year’s Festival and, as with last year, we would love to hear any of your feedback about the events you attended. Our Google feedback form, linked here, will be live until 12 midday on Sunday 17th November 2024. If there are any specific concerns or queries which do not fit into the form, please do not hesitate to email us.
Whilst we’re here, we’d just like to express our thanks to our wonderful sponsors and partners for this year’s Festival. Northeastern University’s Creative Writing MA is our first-ever official sponsor, so please do look into them if you’re looking to hone your storytelling. Thank you to the local restaurants who partnered with us for the week – Avenue Bistro, Different, and East Coast 5.
To our bookselling partners and hardworking box office, Caxton Books, we would be unable to do this without you. Same goes for our wonderful venues – the McGrigor Hall, Frinton Golf Club, Frinton-on-Sea Lawn Tennis Club and the Walton and Frinton Yacht Club. Thank you.
Last but by no means least, a huge thank you to all our wonderful performers and writers from this year’s Festival: the wonderful cast of Playing Jane; the local writers from our electrifying Spoken Word night; bestselling author and screenwriter David Nicholls; queens of crime Dorothy Koomson and Fiona Cummins; scriptwriter extraordinaire Mike Harris; returning local hero Barbara Erskine and, of course, the king of etiquette, William Hanson. Our deepest gratitude to Andy Riley and Tom and Rob Sears for their time spent bringing storytelling to over 300 children at local schools over the course of the week.
As a new festival season begins we have said goodbye to two of our committee members, meaning we’ll be on the lookout for a new marketing officer and more support for our schools programme in the coming months – please keep an eye out for details and get in touch if you know anyone who would be suitable.
The dates for next year’s Festival are in the diary – Tuesday 21st October to Sunday 26th October 2025, and we hope to see you earlier in the year for Rev. Richard Coles and, of course, for the fundraising quiz.
Thank you so much for your understanding and continued support.
The Frinton Literary Festival Committee.
