Book lovers raise record amount for Frinton Literary Festival

  • Internationally-acclaimed author David Nicholls is the first name announced for the 2024 Frinton Literary Festival.

  • Community comes together to raise over £1,500 for the festival during a sold-out fundraising quiz.

  • Tickets for Frinton Literary Festival will go on sale on 8th July.

Book lovers and quiz aficionados from Frinton and beyond came together on Thursday 30th May to raise more than £1,500 for the town’s renowned Literary Festival.

Over 100 quiz-goers were given a sneak peek of this year’s festival line up, including the announcement of David Nicholls, the internationally-acclaimed author of One Day (now a Netflix smash hit), Starter for Ten and Us. He will be introducing his newest bestseller, You Are  Here - a story of first encounters, second chances and finding the way home.

Of 16 teams, the returning champions Not with a Bargepole stole the show. They took home a coveted trophy, and a hamper of wines kindly gifted by Adnams in Connaught Avenue.

Co-chairs of the Frinton Literary Festival Committee, Clive Brill and Gordon Wise said of the evening: “It was our most successful quiz yet, and we have the wonderful people of Frinton and beyond to thank for coming out and making it a success. These funds mean that we can continue to bring bestselling authors to Frinton – including bringing authors into schools. It also ensures we invest properly in our local venues and spotlight the talent within our local communities, too.”

Attendees raised money for the festival through their entry fees and buying mystery books throughout the evening, as well as entering the raffle – with prizes sponsored by Tide's Fortune Gin, Caxton Books, Adnams and Curtis Brown.

The 2024 Frinton Literary Festival has added an extra date this year and will take place between Tuesday 22nd and Sunday 27th October.

This year’s line-up will kick off with two performances of Playing Jane, where actors will take to the stage for rehearsed readings of some of Austen’s most famous love scenes. Audience participation is encouraged in the form of dress up, so the committee hope to see a lot of bonnets and top hats on the day!

The full line-up will be revealed in due course and tickets will be on sale this summer. You can register your interest in attending the Literary Festival by emailing enquiries@flitfest.co.uk
